Mindful Warrior Immersion

Come to the Isle of Man. Walk lived philosophy home.

Spend time with me on the beautiful Isle of Man, bringing together embodied martial arts practice, philosophical conversation and nature-based therapy.

Through movement, walking and time in the living world, we explore how you meet pressure, what matters to you, and how you want to inhabit your life.

THE EXPERIENCE

A little room for what matters.

Perhaps you are moving through a period of change. Perhaps the demands of everyday life have left you feeling distant from yourself, or you have a question that deserves more attention than you can give it between everything else.

You might simply want to spend time somewhere beautiful, in good company, with room to think and breathe.

Whatever brings you here, we begin with your experience. You can arrive with something specific to explore, or with a feeling you haven’t quite found words for yet.

Three practices. One shared inquiry.

How can we flourish and remain deeply human within the pressures of modern life?

The Mindful Warrior Immersion brings that question into practice—through the body, through philosophical inquiry, and through our relationship with nature.

Embodied practice through martial arts

Drawing on decades of martial arts coaching, I use movement and carefully paced partner practices to explore balance, attention and how we respond under pressure.

The practice gives us something concrete to notice: when we brace, rush, lose our footing or find a little more composure. We can then explore how those responses appear elsewhere in our lives.

Walking lived philosophy home

We take our questions onto the island’s coastal paths and woodland trails. Walking creates room for conversation, quiet and the unexpected thought that arrives when we stop forcing an answer.

We might explore a decision, a period of change, the expectations you are living under, or what deserves your time and care. Together, we consider how those reflections might become choices and practices you can carry home.

Nature-based therapy and connectedness

Nature is an active part of our time together. Alongside walking and conversation, I guide simple practices of noticing, sensory attention and connection with the living world.

There is room to pause, sit, listen and encounter your surroundings without needing to turn every moment into an achievement.

These practices inform one another. Something noticed during movement may become a question on a walk. An encounter outdoors may give that question a different perspective. We make room to explore what emerges, at a pace we agree together.

What I mean by “Mindful Warrior”

For me, the warrior’s practice carries a responsibility: to protect what matters, recognise when force is unnecessary, and meet difficulty with care as well as courage.

Calmness, presence, focus and resilience belong to this practice. So do restraint, vulnerability and knowing when to rest. These are capacities we explore together—in movement, in conversation, and in the ordinary work of living.

The experience I bring

This immersion brings together strands of my work that have developed over decades: martial arts coaching, doctoral research in mindful-embodied leadership, MSc research in nature connectedness within Health Psychology, advanced training in nature therapy, and philosophical practice.

It also grows from my own life. Martial arts shaped me; serious health challenges changed my relationship with strength; walking the Isle of Man became part of finding my footing again.

The island is my home, and these practices remain part of how I live. Our time together is an invitation to explore what they might offer you.

JD MORRIS

Green Beret (Retired)

“I’m a former Green Beret; civilian life doesn’t switch off the wiring. Service teaches you to run toward the noise; life after asks for a different courage. On the Isle of Man I found it. We trained calm without bravado in the mornings, then walked old ground and talked about what still matters. Everything was predictable and choice-based. No surprises, no pressure to share more than I wanted. I came home with more space between trigger and response, a clearer purpose for this season, and a way to be present for my family without the armour. It honours the warrior and being human.”

PAUL HANSON

Real Estate Investor

"The most important thing I did this year. Background noise dropped. Attention sharpened. I stopped meeting everything with armour. The island walks and philosophical conversations opened angles I'd never reached in a virtual coaching session. I left calmer, clearer, and with a way of living I can carry into work and home."

Solvitur Ambulando: The Philosophy That Was Meant to Be Walked

First published in Daily Philosophy on 4 October 2026

Walking offers a different way to live with our questions. In Solvitur Ambulando, I explore the connection between walking, nature and philosophy—and what the paths of the Isle of Man have taught me about returning to what matters.

"I was astounded by how in tune with nature Rodney is, and his deep-rooted connection with all life. Given his academic knowledge and practitioner expertise, I really cannot think of someone I'd rather have helping immerse me within nature and reconnecting with it."

DR. RYAN LUMBER

Senior Lecturer in Psychology at Nottingham Trent University, creator of The Pathways Framework. His framework has been adopted by major international conservation organisations.

NEXT STEPS

Make time to come over.

If you are considering a visit to the Isle of Man to spend time working with me, let’s begin with a conversation. Most people come for a weeked, others stay a week. I'll work with what is best for you and your schedule.

Tell me a little about what brings you here and when you are thinking of visiting. We can explore whether the work feels right for you and discuss the length, pace and shape of our time together.

We’ll agree availability, fees and practical arrangements before you make travel plans. If you already live on the island, you are very welcome too.

THE WALKING PHILOSOPHER

The Walking Philosopher is part memoir, part field companion for anyone feeling disoriented in life. After years of full-contact martial arts left me physically, neurologically, and existentially broken, I found myself on the Isle of Man in 2020 with no map forward—so I walked. Step by step, the coastal paths and quiet trails became a classroom, where I rediscovered how to slow down, listen differently, and remember what it means to be fully human.

Blending personal experience, philosophical reflection, research, and simple walking practices, this book invites you to walk beside me as you navigate your own transitions, grief, or search for meaning.

As Philosopher, Paul Musso, PhD, writes:

“Rodney’s life story is incredible and the work he is doing to help others is incredibly timely.”
